day 0-February 19th

and now for more of his story (and I apologize if this seems long-wided, but it is mostly for memory-sake for me)...

I went in for my 37 week appointment on Thursday.  At this appoinment, we were to have a growth ultrasound and fluid check (usually done at 38 weeks-but I had conferences scheduled at 38 weeks, so this check was done 1 week early).  After the successful version the week before, my biggst concern was that he was still head down.  Once in the ultrasund room, that was the first thing the tech confirmed-still head down!!  YAY!  She proceded to take other measurements and finally estimated his weight at 5 pounds, 15 ounces.  I joked with her that when she did this scan with my first pregnancy, I went into labor tht night and had Fisher the next day.  As a matter of fact, all morning I was remembering this "growth check" appointment with Fisher (his was at 38 weeks).  At that appointment, after my doctor examined me, she said-go ahead and make your appointment for next week, but I'll be seeing you before that.  Again-I went into labor that night!  That same scenario this time seemed unlikely.  I was unprepared in so many ways.  At the most, I was hoping my doctor would tell me that the next day (Friday) would be my last day.  Ha!

And I've rambled a bit...Back to the ultrasound room.  After the weight estimate, she went on to check my fluid.  Pretty quickly, she looked concerned.  Usually the techs are pretty reserved and tell you nothing-they leave that to the doctor.  But she asked me if I was still working.  When I said yes-she kind of winced and said, "Well, you won't be anymore.  Your fluid is really low."  To say the least, this was shocking because just a week before, my fluid was very good-high enough for the version to be sucessful.  As we left the ultrasound room, the tech found my doctor right away and didn't even wait for us to be out of ear-shot before she told my doctor her concerns.  I went right to an exam room and was instructed to lie on my left side.  After about 30 minutes, the doctor came in to check me.  WARNING**JUST A BIT GRAPHIC**  She could not feel my cervix-obviously it was still there-just too high.  Boy, was that painful and brought back memories of the last time!!  She was pretty concerned about the low fluid-I was at 2, when "normal" is between 5-20.  She sent me down the hall to the high-risk pregnancy center to have a non-stress test (the same place where I had the "big" ultrasound to determine that chromosomally Sawyer was okay).  In the meantime, she was going to call Dr. Shumway and get his opnion on the situation (this doctor did the version and is a high risk doctor).  We weren't even back to the NST room, and my doctor sent the ultrasound tech down to tell us that Dr. Gearhart wanted to see me after the test, and that I might be induced that day!

Talk about unexpected!  So during the NST, we furiously made a list of things for Dave to pack for me-I had not gotten the hospital bag ready!  We weren't sure if I would have to get admitted immediately or if we would have time to go home.  Everything looked fine on the NST, so we headed back down the hall.  We were 2 steps outside of the office when my DOCTOR herself came walking down the hall to make sure we were on our way.  She told us right there in the hall that I would be induced that night. Whew!  We had time to come home because MoBap was busy at that time.  Thank goodness!

The next 2 hours or so were spent packing and getting things ready for us to be gone for the next 3 days.  Fisher was off on a mini-vacation to stay the next to nights with his cousins Nini and Jack, and Saturday night with cuzzy Luke.  When we finally headed to the hospital, it started sinking in that Sawyer would be here in the next 24 hours!

After we got comfrtable in the labor room, the nurse explained the process of induction and got it started with the cervadil.  After visiting with family for a little while, everyone else went home to get some rest.  It was an eneventful evening, and I selpt surprisingly well considering how much our lives were about to change.

up next-Day 1-February 20th (hopefully, not as long-winded)
